DIY Wood Wax
DIY Wood Wax Recipe
This recipe is all natural, non toxic and easy to use as a finishing wax on a new project or to spruce up wood items and furniture around the house. Simply rub on, wiping excess with a lint free cloth.
What You Need:
- Walnut Oil
- Sage Essential Oil (optional)
Cut beeswax into small pieces, weigh out 20 grams using a food scale.
Using a heat safe measuring cup, pour 100 ml of walnut oil.
Add beeswax to walnut oil.
Place measuring cup (with oil and wax) into a pot of water, creating a double boiler. Make sure water level is low enough so it will not mix with the oil and wax. Turn on medium heat and stir until wax is completely melted.
Remove from heat. Add 20-40 drops of essential oil and stir. I like to use sage for its anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial benefits.
Pour into container while in liquid form. Let cool before putting on lid. Store in a cool, dark cupboard. Remember to label and use as needed.
You can experiment with different oils. If you have an allergy to walnut, coconut oil or a food grade mineral oil would be a good alternative. I use a nut free version of this recipe for finishing our handmade candle holders, TIMBERSTICKS.
