DIY Lavender Body Oil – 2 Simple Ingredients That Nourish Your Skin

Lavender Body Oil DIY

When did beauty products become so complicated? I’m a big fan of simplicity, especially when it comes to making my own products. This DIY lavender body oil recipe is a great alternative to lotion. It easily absorbs into the skin, feeding your body with vitamins and antioxidants without the added chemicals many store bought products contain.

There is beauty in simplicity.

Why It Matters

Our skin is our largest organ for detoxification. It protects, regulates body temperature and plays an important role in eliminating toxins. Toxins come in the form of environmental sources (synthetic additives, pesticides, etc) as well as our body’s natural detoxification  processes (excess hormones, proteins, etc). If our skin isn’t able to function normally due to toxic overload, other organs responsible for detoxification and elimination such as the kidneys have to work harder, which inevitably puts additional stress on the body. The more we can minimize the amount of toxins we are exposed to, the better for our overall health and well being.

An Easy, Do It Yourself Recipe That Nourishes Your Skin With Goodness

This recipe uses grapeseed oil and lavender essential oil. That’s it. Two simple ingredients that can be found at your local health store or online.

Grapeseed oil is light and odourless. It is high in vitamins and antioxidants such as vitamin E that help protect cells from free radicals. It is anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and works well for all skin types. Use organic, cold pressed or expeller pressed grapeseed oil to ensure the best quality.

Lavender essential oil, like all essential oils, should be grown and harvested from a sustainable source. Lavender is used in aromatherapy for relaxation, stress reduction, anxiety and insomnia. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Edens Garden, Mountain Rose Herbs, Now and Plant Therapy are a few companies that have reputable standards for their products.

There was a good period of time the conversation among family members circled around the topic of a broken toaster, an old kitchen appliance belonging to my grandparents. It’s funny the things we remember. It isn’t so much the old broken toaster as much as what it stands for.
